Footpaths and Bridleways

Hannington Parish Council, Hampshire Footpaths & Bridleways

New for 2025! Welcome to our resource page for Parish footpaths and bridleways.

This new page is a 'work in progress' and over the coming months will be updated with resources to help residents or users understand who to contact in the event they need to report issues with path or bridleway maintenance or access - and also, how they can help by volunteering.

In December of 2024, the Parish was visited by Hampshire County Council's Countryside Services, Engagement Ranger to give an overview of the volunteer activities they help support in local communities - like our parish - to help maintain footpaths and bridleways.

Please see the information and links below.

Typically, footpaths are maintained by the landowner or if adopted by either the Borough or County Council, then they will be maintained by that authority.

The Lengthsman Scheme: In addition to the above, the Parish Council works with the local Lengthsman Scheme, to secure a schedule of maintenance works on those routes in the parish, most in need of attention or where, for whatever reason, the landowner has not been able to respond.

*We will be publishing a timetable of works (and the affected routes) under the Lengthsman Scheme for 2025, shortly.*

The HCC Rights of Way: website is available here: https://www.hants.gov.uk/landplanningandenvironment/rightsofway

If you need to report an issue to the HCC Rights of Way/Countryside Services team: - please see their reporting portal here: https://hantsrow.esdm.co.uk/standardmap.aspx.  (Please note if you are able to include a What3Words reference, this is often more helpful than a map/grid reference).

Kingsclere Estates: The biggest local landowner in our parish is the well-known, Kingsclere Estates, sustainable farm of over 2500 acres which is criss-crossed with many popular footpaths and bridleways. Kingsclere Estates has their own reporting portal for any issues you encounter, so in the first instance, please contact them here:  https://www.kingsclere-estates.co.uk/join-us/community/#:~:text=The%20best%20way%20to%20get,the%20problem%20and%20resolve%20it.

If you would like to volunteer to help HCC CER keep our parish footpaths and bridleways maintained, please look at the files below for more information on volunteering.
