Latest News: Website Update - General

As part of our 'website refresh' project, you may notice that some tabs, folders and files have been moved and some of the older material archived and currently no longer visible. For ease of reference, only material from 2019 will be viewable. Should you require access to any material which predates 2019 - please contact the Clerk. Please also note: as a result of this exercise: the 'file upload' dates do not necessarily reflect when the file was 'uploaded' - many of the files have been moved and so therefore: the file-date which shows is in fact the file 'move date'. Unfortunately the functionality of the website platform, is not able to distinguish between the two...(!) Please check back to this page for more news on the progress we are making.

Any queries please email the Clerk: [email protected]

Latest News: May-June 2024 - Website Accessibility & Email Interruption.

The parish website and the email service have recently experienced an interruption of service, with some users reporting that they have been unable to access the parish website, at all.  Our ability to update the website during this time has also been affected and we are currently working to resolve both the service-issues and catch up with delayed posts. We have been working with our service provider and believe the issue to now be resolved, but will continue to monitor over the coming weeks.

Hannington Parish Council – Important Notice – Parish Council Website Update

We are currently in the process of updating the Hannington Parish Council website. Our work to update this website will include a comprehensive review of all published information, records and policies. Certain parts of the website may become temporarily unavailable for viewing, while we complete this important work.

We thank you for your continued patience.

Cllr. Alex Lowrie, Chair of Hannington Parish Council, updated, 01 January, 2024.

Welcome to the parish of Hannington, Hampshire, which is situated between Basingstoke and Newbury, on top of the North Hampshire Downs within the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty The area has longstanding farming and equestrian connections and the village of Hannington itself, is bordered by Kingsclere Estates, a farming estate first established in the 1890’s which is still owned and run by the same family today and the Manor Farm in North Oakley.  Hannington first became a civil parish in 1985 by Statutory Instrument No 179 and is part of the Kingsclere Ward of Basingstoke and Dean Borough Council and the Calleva district of Hampshire County Council.

The Village Green, now owned by the parish council, is at the centre of Hannington Village. On the West side is the Grade 1 listed All Saints' Church that has a nave and chancel of Saxon origin. (For details of Church services, please see here. In addition, including those located in Ibworth and North Oakley, there are currently 24 buildings listed as Grade II in the area. These properties are regarded as having significant historical and architectural importance. Further information can be found here.

The Vine at Hannington is the village's only public house. It’s a popular haunt for locals and tourists and it’s home-cooked menu, friendly and relaxed atmosphere, large pub-garden and car park, makes it an attractive meeting point for hikers following the Wayfarer's Walk. The pub stands on land that once belonged to the estate of the Duke of Wellington. The local Vine and Craven Hunt and the related kennels, were established in 1968 and are a familiar feature of village life. They are located just along from the Vine Inn.

The Hannington Country Fair is a traditional country fair and is held on the Village Green, every two years.  The fair attracts large numbers of visitors from the locality, county and beyond. The funds raised by the Hannington Country Fair Committee go directly in support of the Parochial Church Council and a variety of village amenities including Michael's Field football and play area, the Village Hall, Village Playgroup, and the annual Christmas Children's Party.

Residents’ News If you are a resident in the village of Hannington, Ibworth or North Oakley and wish to be kept up to date with news and events in the parish, please email the Clerk (at the address below) to be added to the distribution list for the ‘Village Weekly Update’ email service and village WhatsApp group, (for residents only).  These services are independent of the Parish Council and are run by volunteers.

Footpaths Hannington Parish Council has actively enhanced access to its footpaths and bridleway network to make it stile free.  The parish welcomes groups of walking enthusiasts of all ages to come to Hannington to enjoy the excellent circular walks and countryside views. Parking for walkers is available in the car park at Michael’s Field, - please avoid parking around the village green and remember to take your litter – and dog litter – home with you.

The Parish Council aims to continue to improve the quality of life for all people of the parish; to build upon its character and community spirit and welcomes all social sectors of the community, to get involved.
